John Baron MP visits BOSP following ‘Outstanding Ofsted’
John Baron MP visited a BOSP Holiday Club session following the charities Ofsted inspection. BOSP was awarded ‘Outstanding’ in their report. This is a fantastic achievement for an organisation like BOSP and recognised the commitment and dedication of the staff. John is pictured with Claire Setterfield, Services Manager and Ashley Sargeant, Activity Co-ordinator, outside The Pioneer School, where the session was held.
BOSP Thriftwood Summer Scheme 2014
The BOSP children and young people had a fantastic two weeks, in August 2014, taking part in adventurous outdoor activities at the Thriftwood Scout Camp in Brentwood, Essex, funded by the BBC Children in Need. Each child was supported by one of our enthusiastic Playworkers and encouraged to take part in the activities on offer. All the children were able to take part regardless of their disability and benefitted from the following activities: kayaking, abseiling, pedal car racing, circus skills training, cresta run races, water zorbing and water splash activities involving a range of inflatables.
Below are quotes from two of our families:
“Just a quick line to thank you so much for letting my son attend the summer scheme this year. He had not been to Thriftwood since last year and it was like he had never been away. He was so excited as we arrived it was a pleasure for me to leave him knowing he was not only well looked after but given exciting outdoor activities to take part in. As an autistic child he does not have many opportunities to access outdoor activities which he dearly loves. So once again many many thanks”.

Feedback is very important to BOSP. It not only helps with our funding applications but also helps us develop the services our children and young people would like to take part in. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any comments or suggestions you have on our services.
“BOSP makes a massive difference to the quality of our family’s lives. My son loves his sessions and we all have a good break while he’s safely having fun. Thank you for being such a reliable constant over so many years”
“Life has been significantly improved since our daughter joined BOSP. We did not think the staff would cope with her challenging behaviour, but they have been absolutely fantastic and extremely positive. The Saturday club means the weekend has structure for her and it feels like she is a normal teenager - going to an activity which she loves. This Summer holiday (our daughter's first at BOSP) was the first year that I felt we as a family, actually enjoyed it, rather than just survived it”
Thank you BOSP for showing my girl such a good time in the woods!! Where else could she safely and happily participate in all those wonderful activities normally the province of the able body and mind? Thank you for your patience and energy - we love BOSP!!”
BOSP is our best discovery and has added to our daughter’s quality of life and ours”
“Me and my partner wanted to write to let you know how much we value the Saturday and Holiday clubs that our son enjoys so much with you. Our son is always happy when he is going to BOSP and happy at the end of each session. He is often very vocal when we arrive to pick him up, and has clearly had a great day which he enjoys telling us about. There is no other service that we are happy leaving our son in for such duration. Your team always manage to get the best out of him and keep him busy at the same time as meeting his needs. In fact we would note that the overwhelming feeling of friendliness and the attitude of the team that greet us and take care of our son, really does make a difference. All of those at the club on a Saturday are exceptional, and a special mention of thanks to Ashley, CJ, Emily and Sarah, who all do an outstanding job and are a real credit to you”
“I hope you raised lots of money, you are all fantastic and without BOSP our lives would be so different. You are all such an inspiration”
"BOSP gives my son a social life and opportunity to mix with young people of all ages (including staff). What teenager wants to socialise with Mum and Dad? It gives us some chillout time on a Saturday after a busy week so it's a win win for us all. My son would be very isolated without BOSP and excluded from activities, such as bowling".
"My daughter really does enjoy coming to BOSP and now you are trained to feed her she can stay all day. I took my other daughter out and didn't have to look at the time. Keep us this service. It helps a lot, thanks".
"The holidays from school are actually quite bearable thanks to BOSP. My son has a variety of fabulous activities during the first four weeks of the summer holidays and kept him occupied with purposeful activities and loads of potential social opportunities. He loves everything he does with BOSP and I can relax knowing he is well cared for. The final couple of weeks of the school holidays were very long, and difficult which confirms how awful six weeks would be without BOSP".
“Congratulations again to everyone at BOSP – this ‘Outstanding’ grade is truly deserved as you really are outstanding! Every time I bring my son to BOSP the same thought is in my mind, thank goodness for BOSP, where would we be without it? It’s about time you were officially recognised for your excellent care and the wonderful job you all do, so well done you!”
“My son thought all the sessions were FAB. You’re all amazing and as Ofsted quoted ‘Outstanding’, very well done”
